One in 10 children will be sexually abused by the time they turn 18. More than 90% of children who are commercially sexually exploited have been sexually abused in the past. Despite these startling statistics, it’s a silent epidemic people are afraid to talk about. To prevent abuse, we have to break through the stigma & shame, and talk about how the sexual abuse of children happens. It is the only way we will be able to stop what is arguably one of the most significant health crises facing children in Missouri today and especially in the Northwest Missouri region.
The campaign initiative is guided by the vision of a region of five counties be free from child sexual abuse. Why? Because the task force believes protecting children is an adult’s responsibility, and through education and training adults will be empowered to act.
The task force will utilize one of the only evidence-informed, adult-focused child sexual abuse prevention trainings in the USA proven to increase knowledge & change behaviors. This form of prevention programming has been developed to educate adults to prevent, recognize & react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Through this campaign, each sponsor will be a significant catalyst to reaching a major portion of the adult population in which the task force has narrowed its focus.
The funding received from sponsors like you will directly go towards the implementation of this initiative which includes the following benefits for each participant:
- An interactive training facilitated by an authorized expert professional & well-known child advocate leader in the region
- An interactive workbook
- Discussions about critical issues
- Empowering curriculum encouraging adults to make courageous choices, take risks, and support need each other, as they consider taking new actions to protect children.
- Videos with child sexual abuse survivors, experts, & treatment providers, sharing their stories, experiences, and practical actions to take to reduce instances of child sexual abuse.
With full gratitude,
The Task Force Team
